The Wheel of Life is a powerful tool that transforms the sometimes-overwhelming process of understanding your well-being into a simple, visual exercise.

There is no such thing as a "perfect" score across your whole life—that kind of pressure only leads to burnout. In fact, if you feel like someone is "better" than you in one area, that’s great! It means there’s more to learn.

The Wheel of Life helps you visualize different aspects of your life as segments of a wheel. By rating your satisfaction in each, you draw a shape that instantly shows you where you are smooth-rolling and where you are falling flat.


1. Identify the Segments (The Spokes)


First, divide your life into key areas. While you can customize these, the standard eight segments provide a great starting point for a life audit:

  • Career/Work

  • Finance

  • Health (Physical)

  • Family and Friends

  • Romance/Significant Other

  • Personal Growth/Learning

  • Fun and Recreation

  • Physical Environment (Home/Office)


2. Rate Your Satisfaction (The Score)


Be honest with yourself! On a scale of 1 to 10, rate your current level of satisfaction in each area.

  • 1: Means you are very unsatisfied and this area is severely neglected.

  • 10: Means you are completely satisfied and truly thriving.


3. Draw Your Wheel (The Visualization)


Draw a large circle and divide it into eight equal parts (like a pizza). Mark the center as 1 and the outer edge as 10. Now, mark your satisfaction score in each segment. When you connect those marks, you create a "mini-wheel" inside the larger one.


Take a good look at the shape. Is it a relatively smooth circle, or is it lopsided and bumpy? That lopsided shape is your indicator that while some parts of your life are rolling along nicely, others are being seriously neglected.


4. Reflect on the Results (The Awareness)


This is the most important step: Acknowledge what you see without judgment. Your wheel is a moment-in-time snapshot, not a permanent diagnosis.


  • Which areas have a surprisingly low score?

  • Which areas are the highest? (What can you learn from what you are doing right here?)

  • How do the low scores in one area (e.g., Career) impact another (e.g., Fun and Recreation)?


5. Set Goals (The Intention)


For the segments with the lowest scores (your "flat tires"), set realistic and measurable goals. Instead of aiming for a 10 immediately, focus on moving from a 3 to a 5.

  • Low Health Score: Goal might be to "exercise three times a week" or "prepare a healthy dinner four days a week."

  • Low Fun/Recreation Score: Goal might be to "spend one hour each week doing a hobby I love."


6. Create an Action Plan (The First Step)


Break your new goal down into small, concrete, and manageable first steps.

  • Goal: Improve Career by updating skills. Action Step: Spend 30 minutes researching one online course this week.

  • Goal: Improve Romance/Partner connection. Action Step: Plan a date night or a dedicated 20-minute uninterrupted conversation this week.


7. Review Regularly & Celebrate Progress!


Life changes constantly, and so should your wheel. Commit to reviewing and adjusting your wheel every month or quarter.


Most importantly: Celebrate every improvement! Even moving a segment from a 3 to a 4 is massive progress and deserves acknowledgment.
